Well, I recently found out that the rdocs web server and the rdocs database server were hosted in separate data centers about 2000 miles apart. Needless to say, that didn't do wonders for site load times.

That's now all been fixed and everything is in the same data center now. So go forth and enjoy quicker load times!

 News::Welcome superfly to the rdocs Editor staff
We've finally got a new editor on board again. So, I'm very glad to welcome superfly to the rdocs team! He's already been making progress on our huge backlog of uploads, but he could still use help. So, if you're interested in joining him, please read the previous post for instructions.

 News::Dear spammers - Say hello to reCAPTCHA
So, I've decided to try something new to fight the seemingly endless battle against spammers.

Effective immediately, whenever you sign up for an account or make a forum post or comment, you will have to complete a reCAPTCHA test - the thing you've probably seen where you have to type in two words to prove you're a human.

I have included an exemption for anyone who is classified as a Frequent Contributor. Since you are the people that make this site great, you will not have to be annoyed by this new feature.

For the rest of you, I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I'm hopeful it helps deal with the spam problems.

 News::Want to join the rdocs Editors?
As the pile of uploads awaiting approval grows larger and larger I think it's time once again to add to our editorial staff in order to help with editing submitted manuals and getting them up to our standards of quality. So, if you think you've got what it takes to help the replacementdocs team produce top-quality game manuals, download this quick test.

Instructions and further details are included in the RAR archive. We are requiring this test just to make sure that you have the knowledge necessary to do the job well and to make sure that you are serious about helping out. If you know your way around Acrobat really well the test should only take you a few minutes.

If the right person(s) come along, we may be adding to the staff within the next few weeks.

Also, if you have submitted a test during a past call for editors we probably still have your test on file. Just send me a PM to let me know you are still interested in helping out and we will keep you in mind.

 News::Site Update
I just spent a fair bit of time updating the site and fixing various problems. It's mostly under-the-hood stuff, so you will probably not notice anything different, but hopefully you will not see the "Access denied" message anymore.

This is also still a work in progress. I have not yet been able to get uploads working again. Hopefully I can take care of that in the next few days. In the meantime, please let me know if you notice any other problems. Everything else should be working as expected.

Thanks for your patience in waiting for this long overdue fix!

 News::Still here
A second new baby has been keeping me VERY busy over the past year, but I am still around.

I know that rdocs is in need of an update and general maintenance. The whole "Access denied" issue that everyone is seeing especially needs a fix. I just cleaned up a lot of it, but spam is still horrible for some reason. And it's even harder to detect because the spammers aren't even posting links in the forums - just a bunch of random sentences! It's bizarre.

I promise you I have not forgotten about rdocs... I do actually think a lot about working on the site, it just hasn't been a high priority for me over fatherhood and other side projects since this is still just a hobby and doesn't pay the bills.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Hoogovens, the FAQ needs updating as that pending uploads page no longer exists. Instead you can use the search page to search through pending uploads, just change the "Search In:" dropdown box to read "Uploads" first.

Asagoth, with regard to the earlier reported 'access denied' errors Sleepy told me that they might have been due to the web server running out of disk space. He then said that he hoped that he had fixed the problem but just now I have received yet another 'access denied' error. So if Sleepy is right in his diagnosis then there is currently a severe lack of space on the server right now, which would make uploading manuals a problem.

After having uploaded those 4 manuals the error started...i can download and navigate with no problems...its just the upload that don't work... The upload reaches 100 % and them the page stuck for a minute and shows this: message : Internal Server Error

"The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request."...

Please contact the server administrator, -email- and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request... strange...

Uploading a manual is working for me. Try it again perhaps?

I see 4 manuals that you uploaded on September 24. I posted Adventures of Batman and Robin because I remember seeing a request for that a while back.

After thought.??? Only Alastair ( yes spelt right this time )seems to be the only active editor who seems to put any input into trying to resolve any problems that keep arising. I for one say three cheers for (Alastair).
