- Have you ever rented a game that came with no instructions? - Have you ever bought a used game and found out later that the package you received didn't come with an essential map or answers to copy protection questions required to play the game? - Have you ever bought a re-released game and then realized that they only included an Installation Guide, no game instructions at all? - Has your wife (or husband!) ever just thrown out all your game manuals because they thought "you didn't need them anymore"?
If so, replacementdocs is here to help! We're here to provide you with those manuals for situations when you really should've had them to begin with.
The replacementdocs.com pledge replacementdocs.com pledges to bring you only high quality scanned images of instruction manuals in their full, original format with all original artwork and other graphical elements intact. There will be no text-only documentation unless that is how it was originally released. There will also be no conversion to monochrome images or any other severe quality degradation.

As the pile of uploads awaiting approval grows larger and larger I think it's time once again to add to our editorial staff in order to help with editing submitted manuals and getting them up to our standards of quality. So, if you think you've got what it takes to help the replacementdocs team produce top-quality game manuals, download this quick test.
Instructions and further details are included in the RAR archive. We are requiring this test just to make sure that you have the knowledge necessary to do the job well and to make sure that you are serious about helping out. If you know your way around Acrobat really well the test should only take you a few minutes.
If the right person(s) come along, we may be adding to the staff within the next few weeks.
Also, if you have submitted a test during a past call for editors we probably still have your test on file. Just send me a PM to let me know you are still interested in helping out and we will keep you in mind.

First new content update in a LONG time. But I felt like I should do it after Jamos saved the day (see previous news items). Just posted about 100 docs to our previously empty ColecoVision section. Enjoy!

Huge thanks to Jamos who had the foresight to backup the entirety of the rdocs upload queue about 2 years ago. Because of this, there is actually very little lost data. Now, we just need some editors to go through it all. This whole mess has inspired me to actually go post some new stuff myself!

The Abandonware Ring has started their own Discord server and replacementdocs has its very own channel there. Feel free to use it as another way to chat with other rdocs users.

Bad news, everyone. I recently received a notification from my webhost that they had deleted all of the pending uploads (1000's of them uploaded over the past 10 years) on the server because it appeared that I was using it as personal file storage rather than actually hosting the files for the public.
And that is actually mostly true, since there are no public-facing links to the pending uploads as most visitors cannot access them before they are approved by editors, and we haven't had any active editors now for years. So, the backlog of those user submissions have kept growing and growing over the years. Last time I checked there was something like 30 GB worth of docs. So, I can understand why they were concerned about abuse of their hardware.
I explained the situation to my webhost and how the space was being used, but I wasn't able to respond quickly enough before even their backups were already wiped. So, unfortunately all that content is gone, probably forever.
I'm leaving the pending upload metadata in the database for now, on the off-chance that one of the old editors has a backup of these files. But I'll clean it all off the server if that doesn't happen.
I'd ask again for volunteers to help edit docs, but for now it's pointless because there's nothing to edit at the moment. But if you're interested in keeping this from happening again in the future, please reach out. Thanks!

I think I finally figured out what happened. Somehow all of the site's settings/preferences had been wiped from the database. Restoring that from a backup seems to have fixed everything else as far as I can tell.
News is visible again. Search seems to work again. Dates are displayed again. DOWNLOADS WORK AGAIN!
If you see anything else still broken, please let me know!
Sorry for the year-plus delay in getting this fix out there!

Finally had some vacation time, so I decided to take a look at things. Figured out why Search wasn't working, so that's good again. Still looking into downloads and other issues.
