- Have you ever rented a game that came with no instructions? - Have you ever bought a used game and found out later that the package you received didn't come with an essential map or answers to copy protection questions required to play the game? - Have you ever bought a re-released game and then realized that they only included an Installation Guide, no game instructions at all? - Has your wife (or husband!) ever just thrown out all your game manuals because they thought "you didn't need them anymore"?
If so, replacementdocs is here to help! We're here to provide you with those manuals for situations when you really should've had them to begin with.
The replacementdocs.com pledge replacementdocs.com pledges to bring you only high quality scanned images of instruction manuals in their full, original format with all original artwork and other graphical elements intact. There will be no text-only documentation unless that is how it was originally released. There will also be no conversion to monochrome images or any other severe quality degradation.
A feature that's been sitting on the backburner for a few years now...
and it's still not where I'd like it to be, but we can now officially call replacementdocs an international archive.
As of today, there is a new drop-down selection that must be made when submitting docs - Region/Language. Currently we have a list of 17 countries that are likely to have video game documentation specific to their region. Additionally, you can specify if a doc is Multi-Language as many European releases are.
When you specify a region, a prefix will be attached to the document type. This prefix will be based on the country's IANA-assigned domain code (the two-letter code that identifies website domain names for a particular country). For example, a manual from Germany would have "DE Manual" as its doc type. An install guide from Spain would be "ES Install Guide". Multi-Lingual docs will use "ML1" as a prefix. Games with multiple Multi-Lingual releases will increment the prefix: "ML2", "ML3", etc. Any docs without a country code are assumed to be of United States origin.
There are some limitations, however. There is currently no way to search "only German docs" for example. There is also currently no way to know which regions/languages are contained in a Multi-Language doc. I would like to add these features eventually, though.
Note that our list of 17 regions is based on the most common game release regions. However, if you would like to upload docs from other regions we will be glad to add more regions for you.
In the past, I have requested advisors for each Non-English language that we support. While I do think that there will still be occasional need for this, the editors and myself will make our best efforts to identify and properly deal with Non-English manuals ourselves.
I think that covers everything... bring on the Non-English manuals!
Airport Tycoon 2, Conflict - Desert Storm (Electric Fungus) Bureau 13, Soulbringer, The Suffering ($plit$pit) Worlds of Ultima - Savage Empire - Map (Pix)
First of all, let me say thank you to everyone who has helped this site grow into the archive it has become today. Unfortunately, I will not be a part of the process for much longer. replacementdocs is coming under new ownership and will be transitioning over the next few weeks. I will remain here to ease the transition period as Google takes over general management and maintenance.
Yes, you heard that right, Google. I received a very generous offer for the site from Google who are apparently looking to expand their Google Books program to include game documentation. replacementdocs will eventually be shut down as Google launches their new service which will be called Google Manuals. It will be launching after replacementdocs has had all of its assets converted over to their proprietary e-book format.
This change in ownership is effective as of today, April 1, 2008.
Just added 32 docs to our Atari 2600 section. Some of them are mirrored from AtariAge and others are never-seen-before like strangeling's submission of the infamous E.T. game. Enjoy!
axeman99 is the star of this update and he now has a lot fewer pending uploads of his sitting on our server. I just posted 78 of his docs to be exact (all PC)... including:
Beyond Divinity Black Dahlia Chrome Dust F-22 Raptor Heavy Gear II Martian Gothic NASCAR Racing Re-Volt Resident Evil 3 SPQR The Settlers III The Wheel of Time Treasure Quest Warrior Kings - Battles Wizards and Warriors Worms
28 new Xbox 360 docs for your reading pleasure including:
Armored Core 4, Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged (rocky) Blue Dragon (drew001) Chromehounds (Electric Fungus) Command and Conquer 3, Overlord, TimeShift (fast fate) Sonic the Hedgehog (nickb01)
And another batch of over 40 Spectrum docs from muguk are posted. Whew!
These contributions have made the Spectrum section our 6th largest section. That's actually quite an accomplishment considering the top 5 are heavyweights like PC, PlayStation 2, and NES.
